Taco Bell Locations: Every State & City, Ranked

Taco Bell's US footprint ranked: 7,881 restaurants, every state and the top cities by store count, and where the chain has no presence.

Quick answer:

Taco Bell has 7,881 US restaurants; California leads with 869, Houston is the top city with 65.

Taco Bell runs 7,881 restaurants in the United States (third-party location data, poidata brand report, August 2025). California alone holds about 11% of them. A newer report (ScrapeHero, September 15, 2026) puts the total at 8,271 — locations open and close constantly, so treat every count below as a dated snapshot, not a permanent total. The menu and prices are national — they do not change from state to state — so every state and city page on this site links the same full menu, prices, nutrition panels and calculator, plus that place's own verified store count.

Houston leads with 65 restaurants. The table above lists the top cities by published count; the full city index covers every city in the site's coverage lists — names shared by several states get state-qualified pages (for example Springfield, Illinois, vs Springfield, Missouri), and a city page states its own count only when the published source table carries it; otherwise it gives the verified statewide total and says so.

Where Taco Bell has no restaurants

Five US territories have none: the Northern Mariana Islands, the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, American Samoa and Guam.

How the chain got this big

Glen Bell opened the first Taco Bell in Downey, California, in 1962. The first restaurant east of the Mississippi opened in Springfield, Ohio, in 1968; drive-thru service became general in 1980; the company has been headquartered in Irvine, California, since 1976.

Find a Taco Bell near you

This site does not run a store finder and does not publish individual store addresses or hours — those change constantly and only Taco Bell's own store locator on tacobell.com is current for a specific address. What this site gives you for any state or city is the verified store count plus the full national menu, prices, nutrition and delivery information you need before you go.

Also covered: Taco Bell Canada, Australia, Spain, Ireland and India.

About this guide's data

Every figure in this guide comes from one dataset: sampled Taco Bell prices and published nutrition, compiled and verified in October 2026 (prices are re-checked monthly, and every data page carries its verification stamp). Rankings state their rule in the open and are computed from those rows — never voted on, never estimated. Where a value is missing it is shown as missing, and each named item links to its own page, where the full label, allergen record and sampled price range can be checked. Prices vary by location; nutrition values are the published figures for the standard build.

Frequently asked questions

How many Taco Bell restaurants are there in the US?

7,881 per the poidata brand report dated August 2025; a newer ScrapeHero report (September 15, 2026) puts the total at 8,271. Counts move as stores open and close, so treat any figure as a snapshot, not a permanent total.

Which state has the most Taco Bell restaurants?

California, with 869 — about 11% of the US total. Texas is second with 700, then Florida with 461.

Are Taco Bell prices the same in every state?

Menu prices are set nationally and sampled on this site from October 2026 listings, but individual franchised restaurants can vary, and local taxes differ by state and city. Treat our prices as the national picture, not a quote from your nearest store.

Which US city has the most Taco Bell restaurants?

Houston, Texas, with 65 — ahead of Las Vegas (44) and San Antonio (37).

Does every state have a Taco Bell?

Every US state in the published table does. Vermont does not appear in that source's table. The places with none are five territories: the Northern Mariana Islands, the US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, American Samoa and Guam.
